Dr. Subhrangsu Roy I received my B.Sc.(Hons) in chemistry from the University of Calcutta in 2000. In 2003, I completed my M.Sc. project in the synthesis of novel polydented phosphines and their metal complexes under the supervision of Professor A.G. Samuelson at the Indian Institute of Science. I then joined the research group of Professor Gavendhan Mehta to pursue my doctoral studies in synthetic organic chemistry. I accomplished the enantioselective total synthesis of Eupenoxide (antibiotic), Phomoxide, Integrasone (anti-HIV), EI-1941-2 (anti-inflammatory) and Hexacyclinol (anti-proliferative) and earned my Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Science in 2008. In the same year, I received the Royal Society International Incoming Fellowship to carry out my postdoctoral research wtih Professor R.J.K. Taylor at the University of York, U.K. and studied the novel telescoped route to synthesize a variety of bioactive lactones. I joined the Ion Channel Biotechnology Centre (ICBC) in 2009 and my current research spans the disciplines of medicinal chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry, with a focus on the development of novel drugs to treat ion channel disorders. One particular target is the voltage and calcium activated large conductance potassium ion channel (BK channel).
